NIFT ET 2020 or National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Test will be conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). The exam takes place on a national level and is held annually. Candidates have an option to choose from the below mentioned Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses available in various disciplines. National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is India’s most famous and highly appreciated institute for Fashion Designing and Technology and has their Institutes across India, all of them which offer admission centrally based on the NIFT 2020 Examination. The Institute organizes two examinations to test the ability of aspirants which are:

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT)
  • General Ability Test (GAT)

Important Updates:

  • The application form of NIFT ET 2020 released on 23 October 2019.
  • The last date of filing the application form will be 31 December 2019.
  • The last date of filing the application form with late fees is 04 January 2020.
  • The correction window will start from 10 January 2020(from Noon).
  • Last date of correction window in application form is 04 January 2020 (till 04:00 PM)
  • The admit card will be available for 10 January 2020 (04:00 PM onwards).
  • The examination will be conducted on 19 January 2020.
  • The results of the entrance exam will be declared in February or March 2020.
  • The counselling will be conducted in April or May.
  • The result of counselling will be declared in May or June.

NIFT 2020 Application Form

NIFT 2020 Application Form details are mentioned below for all the Undergraduate and Postgraduate aspirants which must be read properly before applying for NIFT Application Form 2020.

  • Forms are available on the official website from 23 October 2019 and last date of filing the application form is 31 December 2019.
  • A correction window will be provided to the applicants for one week where the application form can be rectified, in case of a mistake. 
  • The correction window will be open from 10 January 2020 to 04 January 2020.
  • The final last dates to fill the registration forms with late fee i.e. 04 January 2020 and the fee would cost around INR 5000/-.
  • Applicants must fill all the required information correctly and there should be no wrong/false entries made by the applicants as it can lead to cancellation of candidature at any stage of admission if found by the authorities.

NIFT 2020 Application Fee category wise is mentioned below:

Mode of Payment: The fee can be submitted via online and offline mode. Candidates can choose any one of the below-given options a per convenience.

Online Mode:

Candidates can submit the application fee through payment gateway i.e. Credit Cards/Debit Cards. The bank and/or transaction charges on the application fee will be borne by the candidate.

Offline Mode:

Demand Draft Payment of application fee can be made through Bank Demand Draft. The DD should be issued in favour of “NIFT HO”, payable at New Delhi. The details of the Demand Draft are to be filled in the online application form. Candidates are advised to check the following details carefully before sending the Demand Draft to the authority :

  • Name, Date, Amount & Signature of the issuing authority on the Demand Draft.
  • Candidates applying through Demand Draft are required to send the printout of the Application Form, duly completed in all respects, along with Demand Draft on the following address:

NIFT 2020 Eligibility Criteria

NIFT 2020 Eligibility Criteria is stated below and the candidates must read through the section before applying for NIFT entrance test. 

FOR BACHELOR’S Programmes (B.Des, B.FTech)

Qualifying Age:

  • Maximum age should be 23 years as on First October 2018. The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for candidates of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/ Person with Disability (PWD) categories

Educational qualification:

1. For Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Programmes (Fashion Design/Leather Design/Accessory Design/Textile Design/Knitwear Design/Fashion Communication)

  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.

         OR

  • A passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

         OR

  • 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

         OR

  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.

         OR

  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

 

2. Educational qualification for Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production) (B.FTech) Programme

  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

        OR

  • 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

        OR

  • A passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

        OR

  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

        OR

  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB).

FOR MASTERS Programmes (M.Des, M.F.M and M.FTech)

Qualifying Age: No age limit

Educational Qualification:

1. For Master’s Programme in Design- MDes (Master of Design)

  • Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute/University recognized by law in India

        OR

  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

Note: Master of Design (MDes) is an advanced course that demands an understanding of fundamentals in design and presupposes that candidates would be familiar with the basic skills and theories for successful completion of the programme. The course would not provide any basic knowledge and skill development in design as a part of it's Master’s programme.

2. For Master’s Programme in Fashion Management- M.F.M (Master of Fashion Management)

  • Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute/University recognized by law in India.

        OR

  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.

3. For Master’s Programme in Fashion Technology- M.FTech (Master of Fashion Technology)

  • F.Tech. from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)

       OR

  • E/B.Tech. from any Institute/University recognized by law in India.

 

SEATS FOR FOREIGN NATIONAL/SAARC/NRI AND DOMICILE CATEGORIES

  1. Qualifying Age:
  • For UG Programmes: Maximum age should be 23 years as on First October 2018. The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for candidates of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Person with Disability (PWD) categories.
  • For PG Programmes: No age limit.
  1. Academic Eligibility
  • All candidates must satisfy the required academic qualifications listed for the concerned course. In case the Degree/certificate has been obtained from a University /Board of any other country then an equivalence certificate must be obtained from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) New Delhi before admission. Foreign nationals applying to NIFT must possess a working knowledge of the English language.

Admission Rights reserved by the NIFT:

  • The mere fact of qualifying the entrance examination shall not entitle a candidate for admission to a programme.
  • If NIFT is not satisfied with character, past behaviour or antecedents of a candidate, it can refuse to admit him/her to any course of study at any Campus or cancel the admission at a later stage.
  • If at any stage it is found that a candidate has got admission in any Campus /Programme on the basis of false information, or by hiding relevant facts or if it is found that admission was given due to any mistake or oversight, the admission granted to such candidate shall be liable to be cancelled forthwith without any notice at any time during the course of his/ her studies by the DG-NIFT and fee deposited by the candidate will be forfeited.
  • If a candidate does not report to the allotted / re-allotted NIFT campus within 7 days of commencement of the session, the admission of the candidate will stand cancelled without any intimation and the tuition fee paid shall be forfeited.
  • The Director-General may cancel the admission of any student for a specific reason or debar him/her for a certain period.
  • It will be the sole responsibility of the candidate to make sure that they are eligible and fulfil all the conditions prescribed for admission. Before the issue of admission receipt at the time of allotment of seats, candidates should ensure that he/she fulfils all eligibility criteria as laid down in Admission brochure. If it is found at any stage during the entire period of the programme that the candidate does not fulfil the requisite eligibility conditions, his/her admission will be cancelled and the entire fee will be forfeited.
  • The merit ranking will be valid only for the programme/ category for which the candidate has appeared and cannot be utilized for admission to any other programme/ category. Further, the merit ranking of the candidate shall be valid only for the academic session of 2020-21.

NIFT 2020 Admit Card

NIFT 2020 Admit Card will be available on the official website by 10 January 2020. Following guidelines must be followed by all the aspirants to avoid any kind of hassle during their examination:

  • Applicants are supposed to download their Admit cards from the official website as the Admit Cards will not be sent by post to any applicant.
  • Candidates must take their Admit Cards along with themselves to the examination centre without which they might not be allowed to take the examination.
  • Applicants must carry a government Photo ID proof in original for cross verification and a self-attested photocopy if mentioned.

2. Creative Ability Test (CAT): This test is administered for both UG and PG Design Programmes to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.

NIFT 2020 Syllabus

NIFT 2020 Syllabus subject and topic wise are mentioned below for the candidates to prepare accordingly and make a strategy.

    1. Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates.             Questions are mentioned from topics like:

     2. Communication Ability and English Comprehension: This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on :

  • One-word substitutes
  • Idioms and phrases
  • Correct spellings
  • Comprehending a situation from a given passage

    3. Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: This subtest is designed to test the candidate’s capacity for inference and logic from the given information and to evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify the given problem and apply to reason in solving the core issues of the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.

  1. General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.
  2. Case Study: This sub-test is based on a situation of an industry environment. It helps to evaluate the candidate’s managerial ability.

Students qualifying B.Des written test will take up the Situation Test mentioned below:

  • Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. No additional material will be provided/allowed.
  • The model will be evaluated on space visualization, innovative and creative use of given material, the composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill, the finesse of the model and overall presentation etc.
  • Above mentioned parameters will be checked with the write up explaining the concept behind the model constructed. Since the medium of instruction in NIFT is English, the write-up will be in English. No marks will be given for write-up in any other language.

Group Discussions and Personal Interviews (GD/PI) – For all PG Programmes

Group Discussion: It would comprise approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study assigned, on which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on various parameters including:

  • Conceptual clarity
  • Knowledge of the topic assigned
  • The contribution made to the topic
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to generate new ideas
  • Problem-solving approach
  • Leadership qualities

NIFT 2020 Preparation Tips

NIFT 2020 Preparation Tips for ambitious aspirants who have goals to perform well in the exam, a candidate must go through the Tips mentioned as they’ve been prepared by experts who have a better understanding of psychology candidates usually have regarding examinations:

  • Candidates must go through the examination syllabus.

NIFT 2020 Result

NIFT 2020 Result will be declared first for those who clear the written examination on 19 January 2020 on the official website following which Group Discussion/Personal Interview/Situation Test will be conducted same in April or May 2020. After all the tests are conducted and assessors have made their decision final about the selection of candidates, a final result would be declared in May or June 2020 which will be followed by the NIFT 2020 Counselling.

NIFT 2020 Counselling

NIFT 2020 Counselling will be conducted after the declaration of Final Results in June 2020. Below mentioned are the guidelines for students to follow up and to have a smooth sail in the process of NIFT 2020 counselling:

Below mentioned Original Documents along with their photocopies will be required in the process:

  1. Original certificates of qualifying examination i.e. 12th class/degree (marks Sheet and Certificate).
  2. In case of admission to PG courses, the candidates will also be required to bring the original certificate (Mark Sheet and Certificate) of the qualifying degree examination. In case the candidate has appeared in the final semester/ final year (as applicable) then he/she will have to bring the original mark sheet of all the previous semester/years.
  3. In case the candidate has appeared for qualifying exam/compartment (of final year/semester) and the result is due, the date sheet /admit card for examination has to be brought.
  4. Bank Draft(s) of requisite fee in favour of “NIFT HO” has to be bought. The name of the candidate, date of counselling, phone/ mobile no., name of the programme, Category, Rank and Roll Number is to be mentioned at the back of Bank Draft(s).
  5. Proof of date of birth (Secondary School Mark Sheet & Certificate) (Original and Photocopy).
  6. SC/ST/OBC - Non-Creamy/PWD (supported with requisite Certificate). For State Domicile seats the status of domicile will be decided by the address of school/college (qualifying degree) last attended whichever applicable.
  7. Basis of funding of the tuition fee/ certificate of the parent's income e.g. Income Tax Return of 2019-20, Salary Certificate of March’2020 etc.
  8. Certificate of Medical Fitness to be signed by a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format in original.
  9. Affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10/- for seeking provisional admission only in case, the result of the qualifying examination is yet to be declared.
