NIMCET is a common entrance exam which is organized to offer the MCA courses in all the NITs. This is a national level entrance examination which is conducted by NITs (National Institutes of Technology). The candidates will be selected on the basis of NIMCET entrance test for the MCA courses. The National Institute of Technology MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) is an all-India level entrance exam conducted for admission to the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programs at NITs. The exam is held once a year in April.

  • Paper I: Mathematics and Logical Reasoning (100 questions, 2 hours)
  • Paper II: Computer Science and Programming (100 questions, 2 hours)

The questions in Paper I are of objective type, while the questions in Paper II are of both objective and subjective type.

The NIMCET score is the only criteria for admission to the MCA programs at NITs. The seats are filled in order of merit, based on the NIMCET score.

MCA Admission Procedure in NITs through NIMCET

Here are the steps involved in the MCA admission procedure in NITs through NIMCET:

  1. Registration: Candidates can register for NIMCET online on the official website of the NIMCET. The registration window usually opens in December and closes in January.
  2. Payment of application fee: The application fee for NIMCET is Rs. 1200/- for general category candidates and Rs. 600/- for reserved category candidates.
  3. Filling up the application form: Candidates must carefully fill up the application form and upload the required documents.
  4. Choice filling: Candidates must fill up their choices of NITs and the MCA programs they want to apply for.
  5. NIMCET exam: The NIMCET exam is held in April every year. The exam is conducted in two shifts: morning and afternoon.
  6. Declaration of results: The NIMCET results are declared in May every year.
  7. Admission process: The admission process is conducted by the respective NITs. The candidates are required to submit their original documents and pay the admission fee.

Selection Procedure for MCA Admission in NITs through NIMCET

The candidate must check the selection criteria for the MCA courses in NITs which is given in the list below:

  • The candidate will be shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained in the NIMCET examination.
  • The candidates must check the Cut-Off criteria for the MCA courses.
  • The university reserved for those candidates who belong to the SC/ST category.
  • The candidates who fulfil all the eligibility criteria and got the highest marks in the entrance exam will be selected first in the seat allotment.
  • The seat will be allotted to the candidates after the counselling session.
  • It is mandatory for the candidates to verify all the required documents at the counselling session.

Documents Required for the Verification

The candidates have to verify all the original required documents at the counselling session to get the admission. The documents for the verification are listed below:

  1. NIMCET Admit Card and Result Card
  2. 10th and 12th Marks Sheets
  3. Domicile Certificate
  4. Caste/Category Certificate
  5. Valid ID proof (like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter Id Card, and Driving Licence)
  6. Bachelor’s Degree and all semester Marks Sheets

NIMCET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates must fulfil all the eligibility criteria to get the admission in MCA courses which is given in the list below:

  • The Candidate should be an Indian citizen.
  • Candidate must have a B.Sc. (Hons)/ B.Sc./ BIT/ BCA/ B.E /B.Tech degree of a minimum of 3 years from a recognized board/ university to be eligible for the entrance examination.
  • Candidate must have passed the qualifying examination with at least one of the subjects of Mathematics or Statistics to apply for the admission in NITs.
  • The candidate must score at least a minimum aggregate of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination and 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST category candidates.
  • Candidates appearing in the last year of their qualifying examination can also apply NIMCET and for that, candidates have to present their passing certificate at the time of admission procedure.

MCA (Master in Computer Application) course is a 2 years courses. NIMCET is also known as National Insitute of Technolgy Master in Computer Application Common Entrance Test is conducted by all the NITs. NIMCET is a national level entrance examination which is organised to offer the admission of MCA (Master in Computer Application) course to the Interested candidates.
