CBSE class 12 revised exam pattern 2025-25 has been released by the board. CBSE has introduced some important changes in the exam pattern for class 12 in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 – find the CBSE Class 12 Marking Scheme for 2025 on the official CBSE academic website: https://cbseacademic.nic.in/
The Central Board of Secondary Education has changed the CBSE Pattern of class 12th. The main reason to change the CBSE 2022 Exam Pattern for class 12 is to improve the quality of education. As per CBSE’s new exam pattern for class 12th 2020, the board has included more short answer-type questions. There will be no multiple-choice questions in the new pattern of the CBSE board for the 12th standard. The exam will be held in written mode and not the only mode as reported by PTI. Board changes question paper pattern for class 12
Notably, several schools, after the release of sample question papers for Classes X and XII, observed that weightage for MCQs has increased by 10 percent.
- The board has reduced the syllabus for class 10th and 12th by 30 percent due to which at least 4-5 chapters have been reduced in every subject.
- About 50 percent of questions in class 12 English sample question paper were multiple-choice questions.
- No Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) in class 12 Biology paper 2021 have most likely been replaced by Assertion and Reason-based questions.
- In CBSE Class 12 Physics Question Paper 2021, students will find Assertion & Reason and Case-Study-based questions in CBSE Class 12 Physics Question Paper 2021.
- In Class 12 Economics question paper 2021, around 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and Assertion and Reason based questions are expected.

CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2025-25
The Central Board of Secondary Education has released a new Class 12 exam pattern for the academic year 2025-25. Here are the complete details for the same:
- The Ministry of Education has introduced changes in the CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern based on the suggested National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF).
- One significant change is the implementation of the semester system for class 12 exams, in line with the NEP 2020 guidelines.
- The upcoming CBSE class 12 board exams in 2025 will feature an increased focus on competency-based questions.
- Approximately 20% of the questions in the final board exams will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- A substantial portion, accounting for 40% of the questions, will be competency-based, including MCQs, source-based, and case-study-based questions.
- The remaining 40% of the questions will consist of short and long answer-type questions.
- CBSE Class 12 Exams are graded out of 100 marks per subject, combining theory and practical exam scores.
- Practical exams, accounting for 20 marks, are conducted internally by schools.
- To pass the exams, students must achieve a minimum of 33% marks in each subject and in the aggregate.
