National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMS)

The National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMS) is a scholarship exam conducted by the Government of India for students studying in class 8. The exam is conducted to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker sections of society.

The Odisha NMMS 2024 will be conducted on February 18, 2024. The exam will be held in two parts:

  • MAT (Mental Ability Test): This is a 30-minute test consisting of 50 questions.

Odisha NMMS 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship scheme is only applicable for meritorious and financially weak students. The students need to fulfill all the eligibility conditions mentioned below to be eligible for the test conducted for the selection of students.

  • The applicant must be a regular student of class 9 who has cleared class 8 with a score of a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade.
  • The applicant must be pursuing his/her studies from a government-aided school.
  • The family income of the applicant should not be more than 1.5 lakhs per annum.
  • The scholarship awardee must score a minimum of 60% in the board exams of class 10 for the continuation of the scholarship.
  • For the scholarship in class 12, the scholarship awardee must get clear promotion from class 11 with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade.
  • A relaxation of 5% is given to the students of scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, and other backward classes.
  • The students who are studying in the institutes like Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sainik schools, and private schools can not apply for the scholarship scheme. 
  • Students studying in residential schools which are run by the state government and have facilities like lodging, boarding, and education are not eligible to apply for the scholarship 

NMMS Odisha selection criteria

NMMS is a central scholarship scheme. A selection test is conducted by the state government for the respective students of the state. The test includes 

  • mental ability test  (MAT)
  • Scholastic aptitude test (SAT)

Students have to complete each test in a maximum of 90 minutes. The guidelines of the test are stated by NCERT. However, Students with special abilities are given some extra time to complete the test. 

  •  The mental Ability test examines the reasoning abilities and critical thinking of students with 90 multiple-choice questions. The questions are based on analogy, numerical series, classification, pattern perception, hidden figures, etc.
  • The scholastic aptitude test also consists of 90 multiple choice questions covering the subjects of science, maths, and social studies from the syllabus of class 7 and class 8. 

NMMS 2024-23 Odisha Rewards 

  • NMMS distributes over 1,00,000 scholarships every year. 
  • The government provides the selected students with a stipend of 1000 INR every month which equals 12,000 INR per annum. 
  • Under the National Means cum Merit scholarship, this reward money is provided to the students directly to the student’s account by the State Bank Of India(SBI) in one go through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
  • The scholarship is renewed every year till the selected students complete their higher secondary level of education (class 12).

CBSE Helpline Numbers: How it works?

CBSE Launches Helpline Numbers: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced new helpline numbers for students to create awareness about the COVID19 pandemic. The helpline services will continue from 10 AM to 1:30 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM from 24 March 2020 till 31 March 2020 until further announcement.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched two helpline numbers to assist students and parents with any queries they may have about the board’s exams and other activities. The helpline numbers are:

  • 011-22509256, 22509257, 22509258, 22509259

The helpline numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on all days of the week. Students and parents can call the helpline numbers to inquire about the following:

  • Other CBSE-related matters

How it works?

The counselling service dedicated to coronavirus safeguards will be provided by trained counsellors. They will interact and counsel both students and parents on prevention, reducing transmission and also about first-aid for stopping coronavirus spread. They will also assist the students in engaging in useful productive activities while they stay at home, the CBSE said in its press release.

The new helpline supplements the existing life counselling facility for Class 10and 12 students taking board exam, the CBSE’s press release said: “While the 23rd edition of free of cost CBSE Annual Pre Exam Psychological live counselling for students taking 10th/12th Exam in 2020 is currently on from 8 AM to 10 PM, the board has recently decided to also start a helpline for students to create awareness on the pandemic coronavirus besides.”

KVS Admission 2024 Result/Selection List

The selection list of the candidates will be out as per the classes: 

  • From classes 1 to VIII: After the application is over the merit list out for the selection of the candidates for the KVS admission. 
  • For Class IX: Since the entrance exam takes place, after the declaration of the result the final selection is made. 
  • For Class XI: After the declaration of the class X result, the selection is made and the list is out as per the merit and category. 

Admission Procedure in KVS As Per The Classes

Admission Procedure For Class I

  • No Admission Test
  • Admission takes place in two phases. 

Phase 1- Out of the total seat intake, 25% shall be reserved for Right To Education (Hereafter referred to as ‘RTE’), 15% seats are reserved for SC students and 7.5% for ST students, 27% seats shall be reserved for “OBC- Non-Creamy Layer. In 2 phases Admissions to class 1are taken.

Phase 2- Priority Category System will be there to fill the rest of the seats.

Note– If the response to the applications is not sufficient then a second notification will be issued. 

Admission Procedure For Class II to VIII 

  • No admission test for Classes II to VIII
  • Admission granted on the basis of Priority Category system (1 to 5 or 6 as the case may be). 
  • A lottery system is there If the applications are more than the number of seats. 

Admission Procedure For Class IX 

  • There will be an admission test and a merit list will be prepared for each category separately. 
  • Admission will be given as per the categories preference and merit list. The process of admission is: 
  1. Tests will be conducted in the subjects: English, Maths, Hindi, Social Science and Science. 
  2. Exam duration is 3 Hours.  
  3. Total value of paper is 100 marks
  4. 33% marks in aggregate is required to qualify (25% in aggregate for SC/ST/Divyang category (PH) students)

Admission Procedure For Class XI

KV Students:: Admission in different streams will take place in KVs for KV students will be based on aggregate marks scored in class X exams.

  • Non-KV Students;  If seats remain vacant in class XI even after admitting the children of KV/neighbouring KVs then the admissions to non – KV children may be granted on the same criteria, in the sequence of categories of priority.

Documents Required For Admission 2024 In Kittur Rani Channamma Sainik

At the time of the admission, the Parents / Guardians of the girls have to submit the following documents at the time of admission:

  1. Proof of age. One of the following documents can be produced as the proof.
  2. Transfer certificate duly countersigned by the BEO / DDPI of the concerned Block / District in case of girls who have previously attended a recognized school.
  3. Certificate extract from the Register of Births issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, in case of girls who have not previously attended a recognized school.
  4. Serving / Retired service personnel will produce necessary Part – II orders / Certificates from the CO, Record / Service Headquarters furnishing date of Birth of the Girls as entered in the service records of the parent.
  5. Attested copy of Discharge certificate in case of retired service personnel.
  6. Agreement to be executed by the parents with the School and State Government if any.
  7. Affidavit and Certificate of income as applicable.
  8. Affidavit and Certificate of Domicile from the Tahsildar.
  9. Certificate of Medical fitness.
  10. Caste Certificate in respect of SC/ST Candidates from the prescribed authority.

  • All the agreements and affidavits will be executed by the Father of the Girl. 
  • The Mother may execute the Documents only if she is the legal guardian. 
  • Other guardians may execute the Documents (If both the Parents are not alive)
