HRD seeks Supreme court permission to fill the vacant engineering seats at IITs and NITs: The central government may seek Supreme Court’s Permission to fill up over 3000 engineering seats vacant in IITs, IIITS, and NITs. The HRD ministry is holding meetings with the additional Solicitor General to find the outcomes of the feasibility of going to the apex court on this issue of filling vacant seats. Engineering Vacant Seats at IITs and NITs

Several MPs (Member of Parliament) and parents of aspirants have written the letter to Ministery indicating the vacancies of NITs especially and have requested to allow another special round of counselling. For the waiting list, candidates merit list or waiting for upward movements in previous counselling.

Member of Parliament Mrs.S.Dev (Congress) has even written to the President of India on this issue, Alarming to go to higher court to protect the interest of students.

As per the Supreme Court 2014 orders on the issue, Counselling and admission process need to be closed by August 15, to ensure that the classes must begin on time.

Looking at the previous decision Government will have to move to the Supreme Court for conducting another round of counselling

Whereas IITs already started their classes for session 2016 on 24th July 2016, followed by NITs on 1st August 2016,

HRD Ministry set up a committee for reforming the counselling system to ensure that no vacant seats to be left over from next year, Almost Fifteen Hundred seats are vacant across NITs spread all over in India

As per the sources Indian Express, the government has not taken any decision on the NITs committee proposal of opening up quota seats of states for outstation candidates.

JEE Advanced 2018 for IITs Admission

The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) is a sole gateway to get admission into undergraduate courses at 23 IITs. And to appear in JEE Advanced the candidates must pass the JEE Main Examination. Whereas JEE Main is conducted by CBSE and JEE Advanced is conducted by IITs. This year IIT Kanpur is conducting advanced exam on the behalf of all the IITs as decided by JAB.
