PGIMER 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Qualification, Age Limit, January Session

The candidates should check the PGIMER 2023 Eligibility before applying for the MD/MS, PhD Programme/ M.Sc/ M.Sc MLT, Oral Health Sciences/ Fellowships & DM/M.Ch Course/ MD (Hospital Administration) application form. Post Graduate Institute of Medical, Education and Research, Chandigarh as an organising body conducts the entrance exam for above-mentioned courses at the National level. The exam is conducted twice a year- January and July. The applicants must go through the PGIMER 2023 eligibility for January Session below before applying for the PGIMER Entrance Exam.

PGIMER 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The applicants must check the eligibility criteria whether they are eligible or not for the examination. The eligibility for the PGIMER 2023 January session is given below:

For MD/MS Courses (January Session)

The eligibility criteria for Doctor of Medicine & Master of Science are as follows:

General Eligibility Requirements:
  • A candidate must have passed MBBS from a University/ Institute recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
  • The applicant must have completed or due to complete one-year rotatory internship training on or before 31st December and 30th June for January and July session respectively.
  • The applying candidate must be registered with the Central /State Medical Registration Council.
  • The sponsored candidates have to follow the same eligibility as mentioned in the above points.
  • Foreign National Candidates-
    • Must have passed MBBS or equivalent degree.
    • To determine the value of grading in percentage the Candidates must obtain the certificate of grading system from his/her University / Institution to be produced for admission while filling the Application Form.
  • Graduates from Foreign Universities- Indian National candidates who have been graduated from foreign Universities must have passed the MCI Screening Exam or FMGE exam (Foreign Medical Graduates Examination) conducted by National Board of Examinations, Govt. of India, Delhi.
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI)- OCI registered under Section 7A of Citizenship Act 1955 are also eligible to appear in this test and all terms and conditions
    applicable for Indian Nationals will apply to them. The candidate should submit proof of Registration as OCI under Section 7A of Citizenship Act 1955 at the time of counselling.
  • Employed Candidates- The employed applicants are also eligible for this exam.

For MD ( Hospital Administration) Course(January Session)

The candidates can see the below points:

  • The candidate must hold a degree of MBBS or an equivalent degree from a University/ Institute recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
  •  Minimum of three years of experience in a hospital in the relevant field or five years in general practice. A certificate issued by the District Magistrate in support of the general practice claimed should be enclosed with the application. b Must be registered with Central /State Medical Registration Council.

For PhD Courses (January Session)

Please check the below points for eligibility:

  • Medical Candidates - 
    • The applicants must hold a degree of MBBS/MDS/Master of Physio-therapist /MD/MS with minimum 55% aggregate marks recognised by the  Medical Council of India.
  • Non-Medical/Life Sciences/Social Behavioral Sciences Candidates -
    • The applicants who hold MSc/MA/Masters in Engineering or its equivalent exam with at least 60% marks from the colleges recognised by the UGC.

OR

  • Must be a NET exam qualified, JRF qualified conducted by  Joint CSIR-UGC NET, ICMR-JRF/ ICMR - SRF /DBT-JRF /DBT- SRF/Graduate aptitude test (GATE), INSPIRE fellowship /UGC-JRF/UGCSRF/CSIR - JRF/CSIR- SRF/DST - JRF/DST –SRF/GPAT within two years.
  • The applicants who have done fellowships from independent or in Extramural project are also eligible for the entrance exam.

For Fellowships and Post Doctoral Fellowships (January Session)

The applicants have to fulfil the following eligibility for the PGIMER 2023 January session fellowships:

degree on or before 31.12.2019.

For M.Sc Courses: Qualification Requirements: 
  • M.Sc. (Pharmacology) - The applicants must hold a degree of  MBBS or its equivalent qualification from a University/Institute recognized by the Medical Council of India or B.Sc (Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry took together) or B.v.Sc. Or B. Pharma from a recognized University. 
  • M.Sc. (Respiratory Care) - The candidates having at least 55% marks in B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology or B.Sc. in Nursing or B.Sc Medical or Bachelor of Physiotherapy from any University within India or equivalent degree from any other recognized University/Institute.
For Master of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology (MASLP):
  • The candidates must score at least 50% marks in B.Sc. (Audiology & Speech Therapy) or Bachelor of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology from any recognized University/Institute.
  • Also must have one year of Internship after obtaining the qualification of B.Sc. 

For House Job (Oral Health Sciences) Courses

Educational Requirements :
  • The applying candidates must hold a degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) recognized by the Dental Council of India.
  • Must have either completed or due to complete, compulsory rotatory internship training on or before 31st December for January session and 30th June for July session respectively.
  • Must be registered with Central/State Dental Registration Council.

For DM/M.Ch Courses

A candidate must have passed the required MD/MS or its equivalent qualification recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) in the respective discipline as mentioned below & also the applying candidates must have completed the requisite qualification, degree and tenure by 31 December 2020

PGIMER Eligibility Rule for Sponsored Candidates 

The Sponsored Candidates will have to follow the following eligibility for all the PGIMER Courses:

Sponsored / Deputed Applicants- A candidate applying for admission to MD/MS as a sponsored/deputed candidate is required to take the print out of the online application form and furnish the following certificates (as per format given in Annexure-II & III) with his/her application through his/her employer/Sponsoring Authority for admission to the course. 
  • The applying candidate should be the employ of the deputing/sponsoring authority and should have been working for three years (on or before 30th June/31st December for July & January session respectively).
  • That after getting training at PGIMER, Chandigarh, the candidate will be suitably employed by the deputing/sponsoring authority to work for at least five years in the speciality in which training is received by the candidate at the PGIMER Institute.
  • That no financial implications, in the form of emoluments/stipend etc. will devolve upon PGIMER, Chandigarh during the entire period of his/her course and such payment shall be the responsibility of the sponsoring authority.
  • Deputation/Sponsorship of any candidate by private hospitals, institutes or nursing homes is not accepted. The sponsoring authority should not nominate more than one candidate for a speciality.

Sponsorship/deputation of candidates Eligibility

The sponsored/deputation aspirants must have the following:

  • Central or State Government Departments/Institutions
  • Autonomous Bodies of the Central or State Government
  • Public sector colleges affiliated to universities and recognized by the MCI.
  • In case of candidate deputed/ sponsored by the Government Medical College affiliated to Universities and recognized by Medical Council of India, deputation/sponsorship certificate signed by the Principal of Medical College concerned only shall be accepted.
Other Eligibility Requirements for Employed Candidates

The Institute does not have any objection if the candidates in employment application for any of the above courses but must submit a written letter from employer to the Institute.

For M.Sc. Courses 

The sponsored candidates will be eligible only on the following criteria:

  • The candidates must have at least 55% marks in B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology or B.Sc. in Nursing or B.Sc. Medical or Bachelor of Physiotherapy from any University within India or equivalent degree from any other recognized University/Institute.
  • At least 3 years experience in their respective fields after obtaining the qualification of B.Sc. 
For MASLP Sponsored Candidates
  • The candidates must have scored at least 50% marks in B.Sc. (Audiology & Speech Therapy) or Bachelor of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology from any recognized University/Institute.
  • At least 3 years experience in their respective field after obtaining the qualification of B.Sc.
M.Sc. (Anaesthesia) 
  • The applicant must have a score of 55% marks in B.Sc. in Medical Technology (Operation Theatre) from recognized University.
  • At least 3 years experience in their respective fields after obtaining B.Sc. qualification.
For M.Sc. MLT Courses

M.Sc. Medical Technology (Radiodiagnosis) 

The candidates having cleared with at least 55% marks in B.Sc. with Diploma in Radiography from a University/Institute recognized by institute. And have cleared each exam with not more than one attempt and three years experience as a technician in the concerned subject.

OR

The aspirants must have scored at least 55% marks in B.Sc. Medical Technology degree (X-ray/Radiology/Radiodiagnosis & Imaging) from a University/Institute recognized. And three years experience as a technician in the subject concerned. 

M.Sc. Medical Technology (Radiotherapy) Minimum 55% marks in B.Sc. Medical Technology (Radiotherapy) from a University/Institute recognized by this Institute. And having three years experience as a technician in the subject in which
admission is sought from a teaching research Institute/Hospital after obtaining the qualification of B.Sc. or B.Sc. Medical Technology.

M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Cytopathology/ M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Immunopathology /M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Biochemistry/ M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Bacteriology & Mycology/ M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Virology / M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Biotechnology / M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Histopathology / M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Haematology / M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Parasitology /M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology Pharmacology

Minimum 55% marks in B.Sc. or B.Sc. Medical Technology degree from a University/Institute recognized by this Institute and three years
experience as a technician in the subject in which admission is sought from a teaching research Institute/Hospital after obtaining the qualification
of B.Sc. or B.Sc. Medical Technology.
Note- There will be a Relaxation of 5% marks in B.Sc. Medical Technology Degree for SC/ST candidates having 15 Years of Regular Service.

PGIMER Eligibility Requirements for Foreign Candidates

For M.Sc./M.Sc. MLT- Candidates belonging to Foreign countries route their application through Indian  Govt., Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi. 

PGIMER 2023 Reservations

The applicants can go through the details about the number of seats reserved for different categories below:

  • PGIMER provides Reservation for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) - Non-Creamy Layer (NCL), wherever applicable and admissible as per the reservation criteria by Indian Government. 
  • PWBD Candidates- 5% seats of the sanctioned intake capacity shall be filled up by candidates
    with benchmark disabilities, based on the merit list of PGIMER Entrance Test.
