ISI Admission Test 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Qualifications, Exam Pattern, Syllabus

ISI Admission Test 2023, also known as the Indian Statistical Institute Admission Test, dates have been released by the Indian Statistical Institute. It is designed to provide admission to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programmes in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Computer Science, Quality, Reliability, and Operations Research (QR&OR). Candidates will be accepted into programmes such as B. Stat (Hons.), B. Maths (Hons.), M. Math, M. Tech (CS), MS (QMS), MS (QE), and others. The exam is held once a year at the national level by the Indian Statistical Institute. Candidates who are willing to apply for the ISI Admission Test must look into the eligibility criteria. Candidates who will not meet the eligibility criteria will be disqualified automatically without any second chance. Bachelor of Statistics (Hons)

Candidates must hold their 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education (or its equivalent) with Mathematics and English as subjects. 

Bachelor of Mathematics (Hons)

 Master of Statistics

  • Candidates must hold their 3-year bachelor’s degree or a BE/B.Tech. degree with Statistics as a subject,

OR

  • B. Math. degree from Indian Statistical Institute (ISI),

OR

  • ISI's Postgraduate Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics

Master of Mathematics

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics

OR

  • B. Stat. degree from ISI

OR

  •  BE/B. Tech. degree with Mathematics as a subject

Master of Science in Quantitative Economics

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in any stream with Mathematics as a subject at the (10+2) level.

Master of Science in Quality Mgt Science

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a subject, or BE/B. Tech. degree

Master of Science in Library & Information Science

Candidates should have passed bachelor’s degree 

Master of Technology in Computer Science

  • Candidates must have earned a B.Tech./B.E. (or equivalent) from a recognized university.

OR

  • Candidates should hold a master's degree in any subject and have passed Mathematics at the 10+2 level. 

Master of Technology in Cryptology and Security

Master of Technology in Quality, Reliability & Operations Research

  • Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Statistics with Physics and Chemistry at the (10+2) level

OR

  • a Master's degree in mathematics with statistics as a topic at the UG or PG level, as well as physics and chemistry at the secondary school level (10+2).

OR

  • Any additional qualification, such as a B.E./B.Tech. degree, is considered (such as AMIE).

Eligibility Requirements

PG Dip in Statistical Methods and Analytics

  • Candidates must hold their UG degree with Mathematics as a subject

OR

  • B.E./B.Tech. degree or any other qualification considered equivalent 

Statistical Methods and Analytics PG Dip in Agricultural and Rural Management

Candidates must hold their bachelor’s degree with Mathematics/Statistics as a subject at the intermediate (10+2) level. 

JRF (Statistics)

Candidates must hold their M.Stat. degree from ISI, or M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in
Statistics.

JRF (Mathematics)

Candidates must have an ISI M.Stat./Math. degree, or an M.A./M.Sc. or comparable degree in Mathematics, or an M.E./M.Tech. degree or equivalent degree with Mathematics as a subject.

JRF (Quantitative Economics)

Candidates must hold their Master's degree with Economics/ Mathematics/ Statistics as a subject at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

JRF (Computer Science)

Candidates must have an M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Radio Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Microwave Communications, Information Technology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, or Bioinformatics/Biotechnology with Mathematics as a subject at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

OR

M. Stat./ M.Sc./ M.C.A./ M.A. or an equivalent UG or PG degree in Physics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Electronic Sciences/ Computer Science/ Atmospheric Science/Applied Mathematics/ Information Technology/ Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology with Mathematics as a subject.

JRF (Quality, Reliability & Operations Research)

Candidates must have an M.Tech./M.E./M.S./M.Phil. or equivalent degree in Quality/ Reliability/ Operations Research, or an M.Stat./ M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent degree in Mathematics/ Statistics/ Physics with Mathematics as a subject at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in Mathematics/ Statistics/ Physics.

JRF (Physics)

Candidates must hold their M. Sc. degree in Physics

JRF (Development Studies)

Candidates must hold their Masters or M.Phil. degree in Development Studies, Economics, Agricultural Economics, or any equivalent degree.

JRF (Biological Science)

  • An M.Sc. in Biochemistry/ Biophysics/ Molecular Biology/ Genetics/ Zoology/ Neurosciences/ Biotechnology is required for Human Genetics.
  • Agricultural and Ecological Research: an M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Botany/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Life Sciences.

JRF (Library and Information Science)

M.S. (LIS) awarded by ISI or Associateship in Documentation and Information Science (awarded by ISI or NISCAIR/INSDOC) or its equivalent degree

Exam Pattern for ISI Admission Test 2023

Applicants who want to take the exam should be aware of the ISI Admission Test 2023 Pattern:

Examination Method: Offline Mode (Pen Paper-based Test).
Types of questions: Multiple-choice questions Portions of the Question Paper: There will be two sections to the question paper (Section A and Section B).
Duration: The examination will last for two hours (120 Minutes).
Marking Scheme: The marking scheme for each course will be different.
Negative Marking: Candidates who provide an inaccurate response will receive a -1.

Syllabus for ISI 2023

ISI's syllabus will vary depending on the course being taught. The UG course syllabus will include a variety of topics from the 11th and 12th grade academic curriculum. PG courses, on the other hand, will cover a variety of topics from related undergraduate courses.
