The University of Calicut's School of Distance Education is one of the university's major departments. It was founded in 1981 and has grown to become a significant provider of distance education. The University Grants Commission of India is the institution's parent body. It serves the educational needs of thousands of students from all over the world.
It provides a total of 26 programmes, 14 of which are undergraduate courses and 12 of which are postgraduate studies. The university is making every attempt to reach out to every student in the country. The qualifying examination scores are used to determine admission to the courses.

Admission is given only if all eligibility requirements, including basic qualifications and the submission of the required documents, are met. Applications that do not include all of the needed papers will be rejected, and applications submitted after the deadline will be rejected.
Distance Learning at Calicut University Teachers and professionals in relevant subjects produce study materials. Students will be given study materials through the contact class centres. Copies of each course's study materials are also available on the School of Distance Education's website. If a program's total student enrollment is less than 50, however, study materials will not be offered in printed form.
