IGNOU is also known as the Indira Gandhi National Open University was established in the year 1985 located at  Maidan Garhi, New Delhi. It is named after Prime Minister Indra Gandhi. The PhD programmes are offered as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for award of M.Phil/ PhD Degrees) in many fields like management, science and technology, agriculture, medical, etc. The candidates are given admission based on the entrance test conducted by the university. It offers full time and part-time both programs in PhD. The university is accredited by University Grants Commission, Association of Indian Universities, All India Council for Technical Education.

Syllabus for the entrance testUniversity Grants Commission, consisting of 50% of Research methodology and 50% subject-specific.
Weightage Entrance Test shall have a 70% weightage and 30% weightage to the interview/viva.
Minimum Eligibility for admission50% marks in the Entrance Test for open caste candidates (45% marks in case of SC / ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers) / Differently abled persons ) will be called for an interview.

IGNOU PhD Admission 2020 Selection Process

The candidates will be selected for admission in the applied course only on fulfilling the eligibility criteria and below mentioned criteria:

  • Entrance Examination - The details are given above.
  • Interview/ Presentation - Short-listed candidates will be called for interview/presentation of Synopsis before the Discipline-specific Doctoral Research Committee.
  • Note that the offer letter will be sent to the selected aspirants only by the authority.

Applicants can follow the below-mentioned steps and apply for PhD admission accordingly:

  • Visit the official website of the NTA(National Testing Agency).
  • Find the link given to apply for the entrance exam of IGNOU.
  • Register by filling the details like personal details, contact details, password and security pin.
  • Once the registration will be done an application number will be created note down the same then fill the remaining details by login again by entering application number and password.
  • Upload the scanned copy of Photograph and Signature in the prescribed format only.
  • Must submit the fee of Rs 1000/- for candidates belonging to General(UR)/OBC category and Rs 800/- for SC/ST/EWS candidates by Net Banking / Debit / Credit card.
