Note:
  • The applicants for a part-time Ph.D. program shall be exempted from appearing for the online entrance test. They will be selected based on an off-line written test and personal interview conducted by the Ph.D. Admission Committee of the Institute.
  • The Pre-Ph.D course work (six months duration) shall be compulsory for the candidates admitted to the Ph.D. program under part-time mode.

  • Click the “Apply” button
  • Enter asked personal information
  • Type academic details
  • Upload scanned photograph
  • Pay application fee of INR 1000/-(general category), INR 500/- (OBC) and INR 250/- (SC/ST) through Net Banking/Credit/Debit Card
  • Take a print out of filled application form.
  • The hard copy of the online application form and all supporting documents should reach “The Incharge-Academic Section, International Institute for Population Sciences, Govandi Station Road, Deonar, Mumbai-400088”.

The application process for MA population Studies (Distance Course)

  • The Application Form can be be downloaded from IIPS website and/or also may be obtained from the In-charge, Department of Extra Mural Studies and Distance Education, International Institute for Population Sciences, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 in person or by sending a self-addressed 50/- stamped envelope (25cm x 12cm).
  • The completed Application Form along with necessary enclosures (including e-mail ID & telephone number) and a printout of online payment receipt of non-refundable processing fee of 500/- for General, 250 for OBC- non-creamy layer and 125 for SC/ST and PWD candidates should reach to the In-charge, Department of Extra Mural Studies and Distance Education on or before July 31, 2023. In any case no cash transactions will be made at the Institute.

IIPS Mumbai  Scholarships

UGC-NET qualified candidates will be offered INR 25,000/-  & INR 28000 per month for 1, 2nd & 3rd, 4th year respectively. Each candidate will also be offered a contingency award of INR 10,000/- for 1-2 years and INR 20,500/- for the third year.
The candidates without NET lectureship qualification are also awarded INR 12,000/- per month for the first 1-2 years and INR 14,000/- for the third year inclusive of the yearly contingency allowance of INR 10000/-

Counselling 2023

Admission will be based on written test, interviews, and research proposal for Ph.D. students.

  • Merit list of qualified candidates will be uploaded by the institution 
  • Selected candidates will be invited for an interview
  • Submission of the research proposal (Ph.D.) 
  • Final merit list will be uploaded by the institution on the basis of performance in written test and interview

International Institute for Population Sciences

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) Mumbai, formerly known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) till 1970, was established in July 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India, and the United Nations. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The vision of the institute  is "To position IIPS as a premier teaching and research institution in population sciences responsive to emerging national and global needs-based on values of inclusion, sensitivity, and rights protection." The Institute is the hub of population and health-related teaching and research in India, playing a vital role in the planning and development of the country. IIPS holds a unique position among all the regional population centers. It was the first such center started, and it serves a much larger population than any of the other regional centers. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
