National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal was initially started as Imperial Institute of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in 1923 in Bangalore. It was diversified and retitled as Imperial Dairy Institute in 1936 and was known as the National Dairy Research Institute after independence in 1947. Successively, in 1955, NDRI headquarters was shifted to Karnal. Facilities at Bangalore were left to function as a Regional Station to help the Southern States of India. Presently National dairy Research Institute,(NDRI), Karnal offers a B.Tech degree in Dairy Technology, Diploma in Dairy Technology, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Master’s program in dairying, and doctoral programs in the various streams of dairying and dairy technology. The National Dairy Research Institute is considered as the best Dairy Research Institution which undertakes research, teaching, and further activities towards dairy development in India. Being the National Institute, it operates the basic and applied research with the motive to amplify animal productivity and also to develop profitable technologies for the benefit of the bristling millions. Further, the Institute provides high-quality manpower to fulfill the human resource requirements for the overall dairy development in the country. The Institute also undertakes extension programmes for transferring the know-how from the laboratory to the farmers’ fields.

NRDI Admission 2023 (Diploma)
NRDI Karnal provides Diploma course in various disciplines. For admissions to Diploma program, an entrance examination is conducted by the University. The courses offered are as follows :

NRDI Admission 2023 (UG) (B.Tech )
NDRI, Karnal offers B.Tech program in Dairy Technology. This Degree program gives training in processing and quality control of milk and products and engineering aspects of dairy processing equipment. duration is 4 years.

- Candidates admitted at NDRI have to deposit Rs. 2000/- as part of regular fees to confirm their admission and issue of admission letter by the ICAR.
- The waiting list is prepared by the ICAR and operated by NDRI for filling up the vacant seats.
- There is no provision of migration from any other university to NDRI and vice versa.

NDRI Offers M.Tech program in dairying its allied disciplines at the postgraduate level. The duration of the Master in Dairying program is a minimum of 3 years.

Key points
- The candidate should have completed the age of 19 years on or before 31st July in the year of admission.

NRDI Admission 2023 (Doctorate) (PhD)
The Institute also offers PhD programs in dairy research and related streams. The duration of the course for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy shall be at least six semesters (3 academic years) for the students with education framework.

NRDI Application Process 2023 (PhD)
Following are the guidelines to apply for PhD are :
- Candidates can fill the Application form online by visiting the official website of the university.
- The application will not be accepted by any other mode.
- The Application Fees for SC/ST/PH is Rs.600/-and for General/OBC is Rs.1200/-.

NDRI Application Process 2023
Following is the Application process of NRDI KARNAL :
- The Entrance Exam is conducted online only.
- The admissions related to UG courses are as per AIEEA exam
- PG courses admissions are according to university exam score.
- The candidate must be an Indian National/ PIO/OCI.
How to apply for ICAR/AIEEA/UG or PG Exam
- Visit the official website of the university.
- Select the course the candidate wants to apply for.
- Fill all the details carefully.
- Attach the scanned copies of all the required documents.
- The application fee can be paid by the mentioned mode of payment, which are -Online Payment Gateway, SBBJ Bank Challan, NEFT Challan.
- After paying the fee then take out the print of the receipt.
- After paying off the fee the reference no and password is generated, note down that number for further reference.
- For the candidates who are doing offline payments, then the candidate needs to visit the prescribed bank & make the payment of the fee.
- Take the hard copy of the application form to the campus.

For GEN, OBC and UPS Categories – Rs 500/- and for SC/ST and PC Categories – Rs 250/-
NRDI Reservation Criteria 2023
Following are the Reservation criteria in NRDI university:
- Scheduled Castes - 15% , Scheduled Tribes / OBC - 27% , Physically Handicapped - 3% .
- Remote and underprivileged states/UTs (UPS) - 2% seats.
