Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University was established in the year 2013 by the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. J.Jayalalitha. It is established by the Tamil Nadu government to promote Music & Arts in Tamil Nadu. The University is presently located on the campus of the Tamil Nadu Government Music College, Dr.DGS Dinakaran Salai, on the banks of the Adyar River.
TNMFAU is a unique university that has Music, Fine arts, and Sculpture, first of its kind in India. The University introduces PG courses in Vocal, Veena, Violin, Mridangam, Thavil, Nadaswaram, Flute & Bharathanatyam, and PG Diploma Courses in Digital Photography & Visual Communication from the session 2014-2015. The mission of this university is to strive for the development of music and fine arts. The Govt. of Tamil Nadu has also allotted 12.720 hectares of land at Sozhinganallur, Kanchipuram Dist., Tamil Nadu, exclusively for this University.
