DU UG Admission 2023: Delhi University rejigs ECA, sports quota norms

  • Delhi University has revised the norms for undergraduate admission under the extracurricular activities (ECA) and sports quota.
  • Each category will now be allocated 2.5% supernumerary seats, in addition to the regular intake approved by the university.
  • The calculation of seats will now be done on a programme-wise basis, as opposed to the earlier practice of college-wise calculation.
  • The decision was made in the Academic Council meeting of Delhi University and will be finalized by the Executive Council.
  • Previously, colleges had the discretion to determine the number of admissions under the ECA and sports categories, with a maximum cap of 5% of the total intake capacity.
  • A minimum representation of 1% was mandatory for each category.
  • The new norms aim to bring parity by providing equal weightage of 2.5% to both sports and ECA.
  • The calculation of seats will now be done based on the programme, rather than the college.
  • The number of supernumerary seats will remain unaffected by these changes.
  • Candidates seeking admission under these categories must appear in CUET (UG) - 2023 and their scores will be given a weightage of 25%, while 75% weightage will be given to certificates, trials, and performances.
