Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) is a medical college, established in the year 1959. The institute is one of the oldest institutes imparting higher education in medical science. VIMSAR is located in Burla. VIMSAR is a Government-run college. It is regulated and monitored by the Medical Council of India. The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in medical sciences. Formerly known as the VSS Medical College and hospital, this rural medical college has been catering to the needs and serving the health needs of western Orissa and a few parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Its main objective is to impart health services to the rural people of MP, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, and parts of Jharkhand who are unable to afford to undergo the expenses of a multi-specialty city hospital.
