The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology or IIST is a deemed university in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, that offers candidates space science education and research. It is Asia's first institution dedicated entirely to the study and exploration of outer space.
For applicants, the IIST offers B.Tech/Dual degree programme (B.Tech + M.S./M.Tech), M.Tech/M.S programme, and M.Tech/M.S programme. In the final stage of admission, individuals will be chosen for a post-graduate interview. On the basis of their JEE Advanced score, candidates can gain admission to IIST.
IIST is the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, is Asia's first space institute and the world's first to provide a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programmes with an emphasis on space science, technology, and applications. The Travancore - Cochin Literary, Scientific, and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955, was used to register IIST as a Society in January 2007.
The undergraduate programmes at IIST have a total of 156 seats available. The following is the distribution:
- 60 seats for B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering
- 60 seats for B.Tech. in Avionics
- Physical Sciences B.Tech. : 36 seats
B.Tech. (AEROSPACE ENGINEERING): is a four-year undergraduate degree programme aimed at meeting the demands of space technology. It has a lot of overlap with Mechanical Engineering, such as Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Sciences and Space Dynamics. This is comparable to similar programmes offered by a number of reputable Indian and international institutions.
B.Tech. (AVIONICS): This is a four-year undergrad degree programme that includes studies in Electronics and Communications Engineering, as well as Advanced Electronics in Digital Communication, Control Systems, and Computer Systems for Aerospace Systems.
B.Tech. (PHYSICAL SCIENCES): is a four-year bachelor's degree programme focusing on the application of basic sciences in space science and technology. The curriculum provides a solid foundation in physics, chemistry, and mathematics, as well as exposure to major applications of space technology including remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS), astronomy and astrophysics, and Earth System Sciences.
