The application form filled at the time of Civil service(prelims) will act as the screening test for the selection of candidates for IFS mains. Candidates need to go through the eligibility for UPSC IFS 2023 to sit for the Prelims and Mains. Following are the Eligibility conditions for the examination:
The upper age limit shall be relaxable in the following conditions-
a) A maximum of 5 years if a candidate belongs to Schedule caste or Schedule Tribe.
b) A maximum of 3 years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes
c) Up to a maximum of 5 years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the period from 1st January 1980 to 31 December 1989.
d) Up to a maximum of 3 years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released.
e) up to a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs.
f) Up to a maximum of 10 years in the case of persons with benchmark disabilities viz-
However, this restriction in no of attempts will not be applicable to Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe.
For the OBC( Non-creamy layer), the no of attempts shall be 9 times.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) appoints and conducts examinations for all India services and group A and B posts of central services. Earlier UPSC was known as Federal Public Service Commission which was renamed into today’s Union Public Service Commission after independence. UPSC is consulted by the government of India in matters relating to the methods of recruitment to civil services and for civil posts, transfer, promotion, and disciplinary matters. Being a constitutional body it is autonomous and free, along with the Election commission and the country’s higher judiciary. UPSC is headquartered at Dholpur, New Delhi, India. UPSC's current chairman is Mr. Arvind Saxena.
