Exam Pattern: GATE 2024 will be conducted for a total of 100 marks. The General Aptitude (GA) section, common for all papers, carries 15 marks. The remaining 85 marks cover the specific syllabus for the chosen paper.

- The paper consists of 10 questions with 15 marks.
- 5 question of 1 marks and 5 questions of 2 marks.
For Other Papers than GG, XE and XL
- The paper consists of a total of 55 questions with 85 marks
- 25 questions of 1 marks and 30 questions of 2 marks
For GG(Geology and Geophysics)
- The paper has two sections Part-A(compulsory section) and Part-B of a total of 55 questions with 85 marks
- Part-A have 25 questions with 1 marks each
- Part-B divided into two parts Section-1 geology and Section-2 geophysics in which candidates have to attempt anyone.
- 30 questions of 2 marks each
For XE(Engineering Science)
- The Paper has three sections: General Aptitude, Section-A and Section-B to H of a total of 55 questions with 85 marks.
- The General Aptitude section consists of 7 questions of 1 marks and 4 questions of 2 marks.
- Section A which is the compulsory section consist of 7 questions on 1 marks and 4 questions on 2 marks.
- Section B to H in which candidates have to attempt any two which consist of 9 questions of 1 marks and 13 questions of 2 marks.
For XE(Life Science)
- The Paper has three sections: General Aptitude, Section-P and Section-Q to U of the total of 55 questions of 85 marks.
- The General Aptitude section consists of 5 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 marks.
- Section P which is a compulsory section consists of 5 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 marks.
- Section Q to U in which candidates have to attempts any two which consist 10 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 marks.
Negative Marking in GATE Exam
- There is no negative marking in NAT questions.
- 1/3 deducted in MCQ questions of 1 marks
- 2/3 deducted in MCQ questions of 2 marks.
